Britney Spears' father gives up being her guardian

Citing new legal documents, celebrity news site TMZ reported that Jamie Spears intends to work with the court and his daughter's new lawyer to prepare a smooth transition to a new guardian. This is a turnaround for the man who initially said he would challenge the legal process initiated by Britney Spears, 39, to remove the controversial guardianship, which gives her father all control over her finances since 2008. Is a change of guardian now in Ms. Spears' best interest? That is highly debatable, her father's lawyers wrote in their document, according to The New York Times. Nevertheless, while Mr. Spears is the target of relentless and unwarranted attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over her role as guardian is in the best interest of the singer, they add. The pop star's attorney, Mathew Rosengart, welcomed the announcement in a statement cited by the media. 

 

We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have now admitted in a legal document that it should be withdrawn. Justice is served for Britney, he said. The lawyer promises, however, to continue our vigorous investigation into the behavior of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter's estate. Britney Spears was placed under conservatorship in 2008 due to concerns about her mental health, after a highly publicized descent into hell. For years, an army of fans has been campaigning on social networks (but also sometimes in the street with rallies) to free the singer, dissecting her every move and saying they see in it calls for help. Britney Spears implored this summer a court in Los Angeles to lift the guardianship, calling it abusive. At the end of June, the singer said in court that she was traumatized and depressed.
