Macron receives political parties in the face of announced blockades

Sylvie Claire / June 21, 2022

Two days after the legislative elections that have sounded the presidential majority, Emmanuel Macron resumes the initiative by inviting the political leaders of the oppositions.

Six leaders of opposition parties will be received successively Tuesday at the Élysée: Christian Jacob (LR) opens the march at 10:00, before Olivier Faure (PS) at 11:00, François Bayrou (Modem) at 14:00, Stanilas Guerini (LREM) at 15:00, Marine Le Pen (RN) at 17:30 and Fabien Roussel (PCF) at 18:30, before others on Wednesday such as the leader of the EELV party Julien Bayou.

While LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon has not yet responded, his number 2 Adrien Quatennens has not ruled out the idea, but wondered on LCI, for what?

Mathilde Panot, MP for France insoumise, has already announced a motion of censure against the government, arguing that, unlike the last quinquennium, the Parliament will not be composed only of Playmobil. Like several other LFI leaders, she demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who will not be present at the talks with political parties. Like the interim president of the RN Jordan Bardella, who felt that she should give up her apron.

With 245 deputies, the macronists of Ensemble! are far from the absolute majority, set at 289 seats out of 577. They are ahead of the Nupes, which will have at least 150 representatives in the hemicycle. Next in line is the Rassemblement national, which has made a historic breakthrough (89 seats), then the Republicans (61).

While no one in the Macronie publicly questions the head of government - and therefore the majority - many LR politicians, including their presidential candidate Valérie Pécresse, have also called on Emmanuel Macron to take into account the result of these elections by changing political line, Prime Minister and government.

Way to imagine an agreement between the right-wing party and La République en marche and its allies? We are and we will remain in opposition: there will be no pact or coalition with Emmanuel Macron, repeated again Monday the boss of the Republicans, Christian Jacob in an attempt to authority on his party, appeared divided on the issue, like Jean-Francois Copé.

A political bureau of LR is to be convened late Tuesday afternoon.

Remained silent since the electoral slap of Sunday, Emmanuel Macron had lunch Monday with Elisabeth Borne and the tenors of Ensemble!, Edouard Philippe and François Bayrou.

A reshuffle is on the agenda as three ministers must leave the government after being defeated on Sunday: Amélie de Montchalin at the Ecological Transition, Brigitte Bourguignon at Health and Justine Benin at the Sea.
