Huge explosion at a chemical site in Leverkusen: extreme danger according to the German warning app

An explosion of unknown origin at a chemical company site in Lerverkusen, western Germany, was causing heavy smoke Tuesday and residents in the area were asked to keep doors and windows closed, site officials said.
 
An explosion has occurred in the Chempark Leverkusen for a previously unknown reason, according to a message posted on the twitter account of this chemical business park, which is one of the largest in Europe for this sector.
 
Residents are asked to go to closed rooms and keep doors and windows closed, the message said, adding that a fire department response was underway.
 
The event was classified as an extreme hazard by the national disaster alert application Nina.
 
According to several media reports, the explosion occurred at a waste processing site.
 
The Cologne police mentioned on their twitter account extensive damage and indicated that several sections of the freeway had been closed.
