Insurgency in Washington - New round of subpoenas for people close to Trump

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol by Donald Trump supporters launched a new round of subpoenas Tuesday for people close to the former president, including his former White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany.

 

As a White House spokesperson you have made numerous public statements at the White House and elsewhere about alleged fraud in the November 2020 election, (allegations) that were echoed by those who attacked the Capitol on January 6, the commission says in the subpoena for McEnany. Stephen Miller, a close adviser to Donald Trump, was also subpoenaed for preparing, along with his staff, the speech the Republican billionaire gave at the Jan. 6 rally near the White House shortly before the attack on Congress. Other people close to Trump in this new round of subpoenas include Nicholas Luna, an aide to the former president; Christopher Liddell, the former White House deputy chief of staff; and Keith Kellogg, former national security adviser to then-Vice President Mike Pence.

 

We believe that the witnesses subpoenaed today have relevant information and we expect them to cooperate with the investigation, said committee chairman, Democrat Bennie Thompson. The parliamentary committee had announced Monday other summonses, including members of the campaign team of Donald Trump as Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser of the former Republican president, or his former campaign manager Bill Stepien. As part of this investigation, the commission has already interviewed more than 150 people, according to Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney.
