10 people died in a shooting during Chinese New Year near Los Angeles

Ten people were killed and at least ten others injured in a shooting Saturday nightin Monterey Park, a Southern California city predominantly populated by people of Asian descent.
A man opened fire in a dance hall while residents were celebrating the Lunar New Year, police said.
Captain Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department told reporters that he responded to emergency calls Saturday around 10 p.m. and discovered people fleeing the scene.

Monterey Park, a city of about 61,000 people, mostly Asian, is located about 13 km east of downtown Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Times, tens of thousands of people had just gathered near the site of the shooting for the two-day festivities, which are among the largest of their kind in Southern California.
The suspect suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene," said Sheriff Robert Luna, who described a chase that ended with a gunshot from the man's white pickup truck.
The man was identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran.
I can confirm that there are no other suspects in this shooting," Luna said, adding that the motive for the attack in Monterey Park, which left 10 dead, was not yet known.
The investigation is still ongoing. Sheriff's homicide detectives are working around the clock to gather additional information and determine the motive for this extremely tragic event," he added.
U.S. President Joe Biden ordered flags on government buildings to be flown at half-staff until Jan. 26 in honor of the victims.
