The hunt is over: Vance Boelter, suspected of the double murder of Democratic politician Melissa Hortman and her husband, has been arrested after a long run. The attack, which also wounded another elected official, shook Minnesota and the American political scene.
The suspect in the murder of a Minnesota Democrat has been arrested, US media reported Sunday evening. Vance Boelter, 57, has been remanded in custody after being on the run since Saturday.
The FBI had offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of Vance Boelter, accused of killing Melissa Hortman and her husband in the early hours of Saturday morning, as well as seriously wounding another elected official from the Minneapolis suburb, John Hoffman, and his wife.
This double attack on two Democratic officials shocked the political class of this rather quiet state and caused shock among elected officials across the country, mired in a tense political atmosphere.
The governor of Minnesota and local authorities will provide further details on the suspect's arrest at a press conference scheduled for Sunday evening at 10:30 pmlocal time.
