Orlando Halloween shooting leaves two dead and six wounded: what do we know?

Steph Deschamps / November 2, 2024

Two people were killed and six wounded in a shooting during Halloween celebrations in downtown Orlando, Florida, in the early hours of this Friday, Orlando police said.

A video filmed from a rooftop bar and posted on social networks shows at least two people lying on the road and being treated by the emergency services.

“It all happened very quickly,” said Genaro, the witness who filmed the scene. “All we heard were gunshots and everyone fell down. At first we thought it was the music until everyone took cover, by the time we got up it was over. We saw people bleeding on the ground from the roof,” he continued.

Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith told a news conference in the early hours of Friday that a 17-year-old suspect had been apprehended and taken into custody.
